FIRM OVERVIEWDevlin & Parkinson, P.A. was formed in January 2001 by John R. Devlin, Jr. and E. Brown Parkinson, Jr. The firm is the successor to John R. Devlin, Jr, P.A., which Mr. Devlin began in 1997. Although the firm’s history is relatively short, its roots run deep in the Greenville community. Mr. Devlin and Mr. Parkinson’s relationship dates back to the 1960s, when they played together on their church basketball and baseball teams. As roommates at Erskine College, they formed a friendship which now is in its fifth decade. After graduating from the University of South Carolina Law School in 1981, Mr. Parkinson began his law practice at what is now the Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd firm. Meanwhile, in 1983, Mr. Devlin finished law school and began practice at the Greenville firm of Love, Thornton, Arnold and Thomason. Both have practiced exclusively in litigation throughout their careers. In the mid-1980s, the two former roommates occasionally found themselves opposing each other in court. In January 1997, Devlin left the security of the Love firm for the uncharted waters of solo practice. In the spring of 2000, he and Parkinson began the discussions which led to Parkinson leaving Haynsworth and, ultimately, to the formation of the current firm. Now in its eighth year, the firm has four attorneys and a new office on Cleveland Street. Devlin & Parkinson is a litigation firm, and tries cases in State and Federal Courts, as well as in arbitrations. The firm works exclusively in civil matters. Although its members have expertise in particular areas, including construction and professional liability, the firm represents an array of clients, from the local property owner with a real estate dispute to the large hospital or construction firm in need of top notch legal assistance. The firm is proud of its AV rating from Martindale Hubbell, and welcomes referrals from existing clients and other members of the business and legal community. |
